Battersea Team take on MACE at Axe Throwing!

Axe Throwing @ Whistle Punks!

As we prepare to start installation of our single biggest project to date it was important that our site team created a good working relationship with the client. To encourage this, we organised a team building event and challenged the Mace team to try their hand at Axe Throwing.

The venue, Whistle Punks, was perfectly situated less than a mile from Battersea Power Station, in Vauxhall. The 24 strong group, a mixture of both Loughton Contracts and Mace, were welcomed by three instructors charged with teaching us the art of axe throwing!

Once we had been shown the basics of one handed and two-handed throws, we divided into 2 teams and the competition began. There were over 600 axes thrown at the wooden targets, some of which stuck! We looked far from the cast of ‘Last of the Mohican’s’, it turns out axe throwing is much harder than it looks!

The evening was a great opportunity for our team to discuss elements of the project in less formal surroundings and everyone left unscathed, to the relief of our H&S Director!!

We are now all looking forward to our next challenge together – the installation of 26,000 m2 of Domus chevron timber flooring!

Loughton Contracts nominated for 3 Install of the Year Awards

Loughton Contracts has been named as 2019 finalists in the CFA/CFJ Installation of the Year Award for “three” categories!

Each year the Contract Flooring Association in conjunction with the Contract Flooring Journal recognise excellence in the flooring industry at their annual awards night. This event is undoubtedly the biggest awards event on the flooring calendar.

For 2019 the CFA restyled the awards to reflect the outstanding quality within the flooring trade, with the new format focusing on a range of installations within various sectors. Because of our team’s consistent high standards and dedication to our craft Loughton Contracts have been named as finalists in 3 categories.

“Best Use of Flooring in a Hotel” – for our exquisite installations at the Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel. The refurbishment of this hotel originally built in the 1800’s was very challenging, but the end result was sympathetic to its original features.

“Best use of flooring in a Residential Entity/Social Housing” – Two Fifty-One, Elephant Road was a project completed for Laing O’Rourke and EPR Architects. Timber flooring from Havwoods and carpets from Desso contributed to an amazing floor installation throughout.

“Best use of flooring in Education” – This Overbury project at Bush House, Kings Cross, was nominated by Milliken Carpets. We worked with John Robertson Architects on this incredible install which was finally opened by Her Majesty the Queen.

This year’s awards held at London’s Hilton Park Lane Hotel will be hosted by Olympic ski-jumping star Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards. We are incredibly proud of our work and fingers crossed we bring home the awards!
